Advanced Cardiac Point of Care Ultrasound Course Dr. Sameh Rabie Ismail At Jahra Hospital Time 8:30 am - 12:30pm Seats are limited to 10 participants Learning Objectives By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Assess LV function, ejection fraction, and cardiac output 2. Assess RV function and pulmonary hypertension 3. Diagnose pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade as a cause of obstructive shock 4. Manage common critical care cardiac scenarios due to cyanotic or acyanotic congenital heart diseases Course Description The course will include two lectures followed by 2 hours of hands-on ultrasound scanning. As a course pre-requisite, we recommend that participants with previous experience in basic cardiac point of care ultrasound register for this course. This course has limited seats available. Registration will be limited to PICU doctors on a first come first serve basis. Participants will be emailed important pre-course preparation material to review closer to the date. Coffee, snacks, and lunch will be included. Register ASAP to secure your seat! * This is a CME-accredited workshop. Upon completion of the workshop, a certificate of participation will be given to you. ______________________________________________________________________ Basic Point of Care Ultrasound Course (EDE-1) At Life Sciences Academy https://www.lsa.ac/course/details/8/ Time: Group 1 (10 – 12 participants)  8:00 am – 2:00 pm Group 2 (10 – 12 participants)  2:30 pm – 8:30 pm Learning Objectives • Understand the basic principles of ultrasound as they are applied to acute care medicine. • Identify the causes of urgent and emergent conditions that are commonly seen in acute care medicine. • Identify abnormalities including: abdominal aortic aneurysm, pleural effusion, pneumothorax, abdominal free fluid, pericardial effusion, and absent cardiac activity. • Generate high-quality images Course Description: EDE 1 – POCUS training is a one-day ultrasound course that aims to improve the bedside ultrasound skills of medical physicians and primary care providers through a modular, problem-based approach. The course covers a wide variety of clinical scenarios where bedside ultrasound can assist in diagnosis, therapeutics, management, procedures, and ultimately provide better outcomes. The course covers pericardial effusion, global cardiac activity, abdominal aortic aneurysm, abdominal free fluid, pneumothorax, and pleural effusion. Since 2001, the EDE – ED Echo course has been taught in Canada and worldwide over 1000 times to over 15,000 Canadian and international physicians and allied health professionals. Its use has become the standard of care in large trauma centers, remote settings, and everything in between. EDE is the most highly rated introductory ultrasound course in North America. Participants receive 30 College of Family Practitioners of Canada CERT+ credits or 12 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Section 3 credits. The course is unique in that it has continually evolved as the instructor team gained insight into the way beginners learn this skill. Numerous techniques were developed to help the learner acquire a basic understanding of ultrasound image generation and interpretation, making the EDE Course the most effective teaching vehicle for this modality. The credentialing process occurs after the modules have been completed and the required number of supervised scans have occurred onsite with certified POCUS instructors in Kuwait. Candidates will also be required to pass three exams: visual, practical, and written. Upon successful completion of the exams, the candidate will be certified by the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society as an Independent Practitioner. This course has limited seats available. Registration will be limited to PICU doctors on a first come first serve basis. * This is a CME-accredited workshop. Upon completion of the course requirements and exams, you will be certified by the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society as an Independent --------------------------------------------------------------- Resident Led Team-Based Resuscitation Simulation Boot Camp at Jahra Hospital Time: Group 1  8:30 am – 10:55 am Group 2  11:00 am – 1:30 pm Target participants: R3 to R5 Pediatric residents, PICU nurses, and respiratory therapists Course Description Our simulation workshop will use high-fidelity simulation in actual patient rooms in the hospital (in situ) to provide realistic experiences that enable participants to improve teamwork, closed-loop communication, clinical decision-making, and individual skills in a safe learning environment. Following each simulated experience of a real-life scenario, debriefing will occur to promote self-reflection and apply the session's learning points to clinical practice. Each simulation group will be divided into three smaller groups that will rotate between the three rooms to experience three simulation scenarios. Each scenario will take 20 minutes for the simulation followed by 15 minutes of expert debriefing. Each group will consist of 6 residents, 2 PICU nurses, and 1 RT. Each group will select a different team leader for each scenario. There will be a large group pre-brief before the simulation starts. After completing the three scenarios, we will have a large group debrief. Educational Goal: To provide participants with the unique learning opportunity to improve competence and performance by working effectively as a team to manage unstable patients during multiple high-fidelity simulated scenarios Learning Objectives After participating in this workshop, attendees should be able to: • Improve patient safety and quality of care through teamwork, effective communication, and clinical decision-making • Apply the five main principles of crisis resource management skills (role clarity, communication, personnel support, resource utilization, global assessment) when managing critically ill, unstable patients • Demonstrate proficiency in essential life-saving clinical skills, including airway management, vascular access, and chest tube insertion. * This is a CME-accredited workshop. Upon completion of the workshop, a certificate of participation will be given to you. --------------------------------------------------------------- PICU Team-Based Resuscitation Simulation At Jahra Hospital Target participants: PICU doctors, PICU nurses, and respiratory therapists Time: Group 3  2:00 pm – 4: 25 pm Group 4  4:30 pm – 7:10 pm Workshop Description Our simulation workshop will use high-fidelity simulation in actual patient rooms in the hospital (in situ) to provide realistic experiences that enable participants to improve teamwork, closed-loop communication, clinical decision-making, and individual skills in a safe learning environment. Following each simulated experience of a real-life scenario, debriefing will occur to promote self-reflection and apply the session's learning points to clinical practice. Each simulation group will be divided into three smaller groups that will rotate between the three rooms to experience three simulation scenarios. There will be six groups in total consisting of PICU teams from each hospital in Kuwait: Adan PICU, Jahra PICU, Farwaniya PICU, Mubarak Alkabeer PICU, Sabah PICU, and Jaber PICU. Each simulation scenario will take 20 minutes for the simulation followed by 15 minutes of expert debriefing. Each group will consist of 4-6 doctors, 2 PICU nurses, and 1 RT. Each group will select a different team leader for each scenario. There will be a large group pre-brief before the simulation starts. After completing the three scenarios, we will have a large group debrief. The top-performing PICU team will receive an award at the conference closing ceremony. PICU teams’ performance will be evaluated based on learning objectives.
