Aims And Objectives

The “Low Vision Rehabilitation Training for Ophthalmologists” course will help ophthalmologists to realize the scope of Low Vision Rehabilitation services, perform assessments for patients with low vision and decide on proper intervention.


Content Outline

This course will provide ophthalmologists with the knowledge to: - Understand the context of comprehensive eye health as well as the terminology of visual impairment. - Describe the common causes, symptoms and implications of visual impairment in children and adults and list intervention and prevention strategies. - Perform a low vision assessment and recommend appropriate management. - Determine the need for and teach people with low vision on how to use appropriate optical low vision devices. -Understand the psychosocial impact of low vision and the strategies used to manage coping difficulties. - Understand adaptive daily living skills and practical techniques for training people with low vision on how to adapt in an environment to promote their independence. - Understand the scope of services for visual rehabilitation and align low vision services with it.


Target Audience

Ophthalmologist, Ophthalmology residents from Kuwait University and Optometrist.
