Aims And Objectives

The main objective of the Conference is to outline the scope of epidemic of non-communicable diseases and the impact of our foods on disease risks. During the past few decades, diets in Kuwait have shifted towards a dramatic increase in consumption of ultra-processed foods. The aim of the Conference is to communicate the new evidence on the role of food and nutrition in public health, on the sustainability and prevention of chronic diseases (cardiovascular, stroke, cancer, obesity, diabetes) by various diets and nutritional patterns, and to strengthen the capacities for effective implementation of the relevant knowledge in the field of Diet, Nutrition and Public Health. The new classification system for foods generated by Prof. Monteiro and colleagues, the NOVA system, offers a chance to fine-tune what are often confusing nutritional messages. The Annual Public Health Conference 2019 will: 1. Provide a platform to exchange experience (local, regional, international) on issues of diet, nutrition and public health. 2. Increase in capacity building and research competence regarding public health nutrition. 3. Advocating evidence –based implementation of dietary instructions and effective tools in health promotion. 4. Sharing knowledge, experience and guidance of international expertise 5. Encourage networking among public health and nutrition experts in health promotion and maintenance.
