Aims And Objectives

• Understand what is meant by quality improvement • Become familiar with some quality improvement tools • Consider how quality improvement projects could fit into Family Medicine training • Understand the opportunities that quality improvement projects could bring to Family Medicine residents, and some of the pitfalls • Apply knowledge of quality improvement tools to practical situations


Content Outline

• Consider the different contexts of quality improvement within FM • Understand how SMART objectives fit with quality improvement projects • Apply SMART objectives to some examples of quality improvement project ideas • Consider the role of the trainer in helping the resident at the start of any quality improvement project, and beyond • Gain an understanding of one or two examples of trainees’ quality improvement projects • Consider the next steps for trainers to pilot quality improvement projects in FM training; resources, incentives, protected time.
