Aims And Objectives

• To get familiar with the common dermatological problems in GP. • To recognize the approach to manage patient presenting with skin problem (information gathering, examination and EBM-management). • To identify the indication of referral to dermatology specialist. • To simulate and discuss different skin conditions and disease through a role-play.


Content Outline

Pediatric dermatology: • Atopic dermatitis o Diagnostic criteria o Clinical features (distribution/ morphology/ pattern) o Management (guidelines and principles) o Complication (bacterial/viral infections, CAD, etc) o Referral guidelines. • Infant skin o Common skin condition affects neonates o Birth marks and naevi • Skin infections (pictures only—quick presentation/ taken already) o Common skin infections presenting in children  Bacterial; impetigo  Viral; warts, molluscum, herpes simplex o Clinical presentations of viral exanthems, v,brief plz pictures only (measles, chicken pox, hand foot mouth dis., ** Those topics should be only picture with spot diagnosis and EBM-Mx Adult dermatology Inflammatory skin condition- • Eczema in adults (atopy), seborrhea • Contact eczema; allergic/irritant. (Need to talk about invsx. E.g. patch test • Psoriasis o Clinical features o Anatomical sites o Types o Treatment options • Lichen planus • Urticaria and drug eruption • Bullous disorder o Pemphigoid/pemphigus Flexural rashes (Dr. Anwaar Buhamra) Facial rash- • Acne; grading of acne, treatment, referral guidelines • Rosacea • Perioral dermatitis • Skin manifestation in SLE (butterfly rash, discoid lupus), dermatomyositis, scleroderma.etc. Skin infections (contact for assistant or details if needed) • Viral • Bacterial • Fungal/yeast • Arthropods; scabies, lice • Worms/protozoa; leishmaniasi Skin cancer (ABRIEF presentation highlights diagnostic criteria and D.D) • Melanoma and pigmented lesions o Aetiological factors involved in development of MM (sun exposure, skin type and immunosuppresion). o Differentiate MM from other pigmented lesions (7point checklist (british), ABCDE (American) o List different types of MM (quick and brief). • Non-melanoma o Describe types and clinical features (BCC, SCC) o How to recognize skin cancer o Diagnostic technique/treatment in brief. Common disorders of pigmented skin • Vitiligo, clinical • Melasma Systemic disease and skin (PICTURES ONLY and characteristics morphology) • DM, acanthosis nigricans, necrobiosis lipodica • Pyoderma gangrenosum • Erythema nodosum • Erythema multiforme • Pruritis and itching Insects and skin o Scabies- clinical features/ diagnosis/ treatment. o Head lice- clinical features/ treatment.
