Aims And Objectives

• To differentiate among the full range of research study designs, including cross-sectional studies, case-control studies, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials • To tailor an appropriate research study design to address specific research questions • To identify the presence of bias, confounding, and imprecision in research studies, study results, or in a specific data set; and be able to address these limitations in a systematic and logical manner • To interpret basic data presented in the medical literature • To be able to formulate a research question, and produce a study design that can appropriately address the question.

Course content (4 hours): 1. Fundamentals of Evidence-based Medicine and Types of Studies (1 hour) 2. Critical Appraisal of Therapeutic Studies (1 hour) (1 hour) 3. Critical Appraisal of Systematic Reviews (1 hour) (1 hour) 4. Diagnostic Studies (1 hour) (1 hour)
