Aims And Objectives
Dental Implants is a treatment modality which should be considered as part of every treatment planning for a patient with missing or failing and non restorable teeth. While restoring dental implants is a skill which should be mastered by every general dentist, patients high expectations make it mandatory for every dentist to build sound knowledge , good level skills and understanding of restorative principles in implant dentistry. This course aims to provide general dental practitioners an introduction into dental implants as one of the valid options in dental practice, understand the pros and cons of implant restorations as well as alternative options. It will also present valid and well documented strategies in restoring dental implants and their effect on long term success of implant restorations. It is also important to understand that passive, successful and well designed restorations will also controlled protect Peri-implant bone and soft tissue long term stability. Furthermore, dentists will need to apply their basic restorative principles such as impression techniques, provisionalisation, dental occlusion, pontic design and effect of prosthetic design on soft tissue maturation. In addition to the seminars and clinical cases discussion, this course will also involve hands on workshops on implant provisional restorations design and impression techniques in implant dentistry.
Content Outline
At the end of the course, the participants will be able to develop good understanding of : - Basic principles in implant dentistry. - Success criteria in implant dentistry. - Pink and white aesthetics in implant dentistry. - Diagnosis of healthy vs diseased peri-implant bone and soft tissue. - Restorative options for the partially and full atrophic area - Reverse treatment planning concept - Restoratively driven implant positioning - Provisionallisation in implant dentistry : prosthetic soft tissue sculpture - Prosthetic soft tissue sculpture and maturation - Implant impression techniques: open vs closed tray techniques - Types of abutments used in implant dentistry - Cement vs screw retained restorations - Short and long term care for implant restorations in the dental practice. The Hands-on Workshop : - Restoratively driven implant planning - Provisionallisaton in implant dentistry - Impression techniques in implant dentistry
