Aims And Objectives

o To familiarize the residents with common geriatric problems o To explain the holistic approach in geriatric patients


Content Outline

Competencies • Be able to execute a broad, consistent geriatric assessments and extend the management plan toward long-term with considering continuity of care. • Achievement of effective communication skills with the geriatric patients and amplify it to the family and caregiver as well, to certain mutual management plan. • Ability to conduct home visit for geriatric assessment (dealing with reason of visit and assessing the environment and home situation). • Awareness of the local community resources that is available for geriatric care as multidisciplinary approach aiming optimizing care. Knowledge • Improve knowledge and applied knowledge in medical practice of common problems in geriatric problems including • Functional assessment of geriatrics according to local guideline. • Home visit assessment • Dementia • Confusion • Mental health • Infections • Mobility problems and risk of falls • Osteoporosis • Visual and hearing problems • Polypharmacy • Geriatric abuse or neglect Skills • Improve the ability to independently perform or appropriately refer • Basic elements of geriatric assessment, including the standardized methods for assessing physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning as appropriate • Screening examinations and/or investigation for mental status, depression, and functional status. • Recognition of normal and abnormal signs of aging • Obtain a comprehensive history including evaluation of hearing and vision and mental status examination
